How to use the upload time
Convert file size and measured upstream bandwidth into an estimated transfer time with a modest network-overhead allowance. Platform processing after the transfer is not included.
Measure the upstream path that will perform the upload
Run a speed test from the actual device and network, ideally close to the planned publishing time. Advertised connection speed and download speed are not reliable upload inputs.
Shared Wi-Fi, backups, video calls, VPNs, and network congestion can reduce sustained throughput. Use a conservative measured value when a deadline matters.
Leave time for processing and review
After transfer, YouTube still needs to process resolutions and run platform checks. Schedule from the publish deadline backward and leave time to inspect the uploaded video, captions, thumbnail, links, and monetization settings.
