H.264 MP4 is a useful fallback if a file will not open. HEVC, ProRes, damaged files, and some MOV/WebM codecs may be unsupported. HDR color and rotation depend on browser decoding; inspect the extracted image before publishing.
How to use the video frame
Turn a moment from a local video into a downloadable still image. Choose a browser-supported video, set a timestamp, and save the decoded frame as PNG or JPEG. You can then pass that image directly into the crop, compressor, or thumbnail-preview tool in the same tab.
Choose the moment and inspect the result
Use the timestamp controls to find a useful expression, scene, or demonstration step. The browser seeks within the original video and renders the available frame. A requested timestamp does not guarantee an exact frame number, particularly around cuts or in variable-frame-rate footage.
Inspect the extracted image for motion blur and awkward expressions. If it is not the moment you intended, adjust the time slightly and extract again. The selected video remains on your device; it is not uploaded for processing.
Prepare the frame for its destination
PNG preserves the rendered pixels and can be larger. JPEG uses lossy encoding and is often smaller for photographic scenes. The default export limits the longest side to 1920 pixels; choose original dimensions when you need more detail within the tool's supported limits.
Use Adjust crop to frame the subject, then compress the output to your upload limit. Browser support depends on both the container and codec, so a file extension alone cannot guarantee playback. If the video cannot open, try a compatible export from your editor.

Can I save a video frame as PNG?
Yes. Select PNG, choose a timestamp, extract the frame, and download the result. PNG preserves the pixels rendered by the browser, not additional detail beyond the source video.
Which video formats are supported?
Support depends on your browser's decoder and the codecs inside the file. MP4 or WebM may work when their video codec is supported. The tool does not install codecs or transcode unsupported files.
Can I make a YouTube thumbnail from a video?
Yes. Extract a useful frame, continue to the crop or compressor, and preview it with your title. The preview is a visual check and does not predict click-through rate.
