How to use the exclusivity fee

Estimate the additional fee for limiting which competing brands a creator may work with. The result is an opportunity-cost planning range, not a legal conclusion about whether a proposed restriction is reasonable or enforceable.

Test the restriction against a concrete deal

Suppose a creator charges $2,000 for one integration and a brand requests three months of category exclusivity. Enter the base fee, term, and the closest category scope, then compare the added fee with realistic competing work that may be declined during those months. The calculated amount should make the tradeoff visible before contract language is negotiated.

Use the narrowest accurate category. A restriction covering one named product type is materially different from a ban on every company in technology, food, finance, or lifestyle. List known competitors and borderline cases in writing so both sides understand what work remains available.

Review duration, geography, and overlapping rights

Confirm when exclusivity starts and ends, whether it applies only to sponsored posts or also to unpaid mentions, and which channels and countries are included. A campaign that launches late should not silently extend a creator's restriction unless the agreement says so and compensates for it.

Treat usage rights, whitelisting, ownership, and exclusivity as separate lines. They transfer different value and can expire on different dates. For unusual definitions, regulated categories, or broad non-compete language, use qualified legal review rather than relying on a calculator output.

Common questions

Questions about this tool

Should exclusivity be included in the base sponsorship fee?

Only when the restricted category, channels, geography, and term are already narrow and explicit. Otherwise quote it separately so its opportunity cost remains visible.

What if the brand names only a few competitors?

A named list is easier to evaluate than a broad category, but the agreement should also explain how acquisitions, parent companies, and new competitors are handled.

Is the calculated fee legally binding?

No. It is a planning estimate based on the selected assumptions. Contract scope and enforceability require agreement between the parties and may require legal advice.
