How to use the photo metadata

Review the information embedded in a JPEG before sharing it. This tool inspects common EXIF fields, including camera details, dates, and GPS coordinates when present. It creates a new JPEG locally and checks the exported bytes for the metadata structures it removes.

Inspect the embedded fields first

A JPEG can contain information that is not visible in the picture. EXIF fields may include a camera model, capture date, orientation, or location. Other blocks can contain descriptions, editing history, or color profiles. Missing fields mean they were not found by this inspection; they do not prove where an image came from.

Understand the exported copy

The browser renders the image orientation into pixels and re-encodes a fresh JPEG. The tool removes metadata blocks and trailing data, then inspects the output structure again. Re-encoding is lossy, and removing color profiles can affect appearance; keep the original and compare the downloaded copy.

This is not a complete anonymization process. A visible address, recognizable face, reflection, or information hidden inside image pixels can remain. Your operating system also assigns file dates to a downloaded copy. Review the image itself before you publish it.

Does this remove GPS from a JPEG?

The exported copy removes embedded EXIF metadata, including GPS fields stored there, and verifies the output structure. It does not conceal a location that is visible in the picture itself.

Is the image kept without quality loss?

No. A new JPEG is encoded after the browser applies orientation. Compression or color changes are possible, so compare the result and retain your original.

Does this support PNG, WebP, or video?

This tool supports JPEG only. Other formats contain different metadata structures and require separate inspection and removal methods.
