How to use the resolution
Scale video dimensions while preserving the source aspect ratio and producing encoder-friendly whole-pixel values. This is useful for proxies, review exports, platform versions, and production planning where accidental distortion creates avoidable rework.
Check a scale before committing an export
A 50% scale of 3840 by 2160 produces 1920 by 1080, preserving 16:9. A 75% scale produces 2880 by 1620. Use the result to configure the timeline or export preset, then check that graphics, captions, and thin lines remain readable at the smaller size.
The calculator returns even dimensions because many common video encoders and chroma-subsampling workflows behave more reliably with even pixel counts. If a platform or codec requires a stricter multiple, round within that specification and verify the aspect ratio again.
Separate scaling from cropping and quality
Scaling changes pixel dimensions; cropping removes part of the frame. Do not enter a portrait target for a landscape source and assume the calculator has chosen a composition. Use the crop planner when the destination aspect ratio differs.
More pixels do not restore missing source detail, and resolution alone does not determine quality. Bitrate, codec, frame rate, color depth, scaling filter, noise, and repeated encoding can matter as much as the final dimensions.

Why are the calculated dimensions even numbers?
Even dimensions are compatible with common 4:2:0 video workflows and avoid encoder failures caused by odd pixel counts.
Can this convert landscape video to vertical?
It can calculate dimensions, but a change from 16:9 to 9:16 requires cropping, reframing, padding, or a new layout. Use the crop planner for that decision.
Does upscaling improve image quality?
Upscaling increases the pixel grid but cannot recreate source detail. It may help meet a delivery requirement, but inspect the result for softness, artifacts, and text readability.
